When I think of artists I wouldn’t want around my school or my children, Big Sean is absolutely one of the LAST people that would come to mind…but that’s not how a few students feel at the ivy league school, Princeton University.
The G.O.O.D. Music rapper is tapped to perform soon at Princeton’s biannual Lawnparties concert – one that has featured the likes of ScHoolboy Q, Ray J and more in the past – but two students by the name of Duncan Hosie and Rebecca Basalduaand have put together a petition hoping to stop that.
“After I saw that video, I started researching Big Sean’s language and I found language that was both misogynistic and homophobic,” Duncan said, referring Sean’s “IDFWU” single that was featured in the Lawnparties promo.
“I’m sure every singer has a questionable song, but there are a significant amount of his songs that deal with this and I think there are a lot of other artists in the same genre even that would have been a better choice,” Rebecca added.
The petition (which you can view here) states that Sean “promotes rape culture and misogyny in his lyrics,” and should not be allowed to perform at the school. Do you think they’ll succeed?
