Mariah Carey is back in the news, this time insisting that her publicist didn’t quit on her.. She fired the publicist herself. Mariah claims she wrote a letter to fames publicist Cindi Berger, who has represented the singer for the past 15 years. In the letter Mariah goes on to say “I’ve done a lot of soul-searching this past year … and I found myself asking if I was truly employing a healthy perspective (not to sound too Oprah about it all).” The singer goes on, “So I think it’s time for us to take a break Cindi,” saying she wants to “bring a fresh approach to this new phase in my career.”
TMZ reached out to Berger’s office, and they are claiming to never even received a letter. Sources who are close to the publicist claim that she is the one who ended the relationship with Mariah, and not Mariah. Berger confirmed their split claiming it was the “right time,” and going on to say “we’ve been through a lot together, and I care very deeply for her personally.”
Things got bitter fast though, as Mariah ended her letter by offering to put an ad in a Hollywood magazine honoring Cindi for winning a “Women of Power” award. Mariah’s new manager, Stella Bulochnikov, tells us, they’re pissed at Cindi because they think she leaked the story she quit Mariah, so they’re not going forward with the ad. All this drama sounds like the result of a diva that couldn’t get her way!
Despite all the drama in her life, Carey does have several projects on the horizon coming up. May 6 she begins a Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace, and later this year a repackaged greatest-hits set is supposed to release that will likely combine her 15 Billboard No. 1’s under Sony, along with new material. Though it’s been six years since her last top 10 record, Carey ranks second to The Beatles in time spent at No. 1 and also still holds the record for longest-running Hot 100 No. 1 single. Also on Tuesday, Deadline Hollywood confirmed Carey’s next project, a Christmas movie in development with New Line.
