In 2013, rapper Jim Jones was pulled over for reckless driving on the Sheridan Expressway in the Bronx, and eventually arrested for a DUI because cops said they “smelled weed,” though no weed was found in the car. At the end of the ordeal, Jones was charged with attempting to commit a crime, driving under the influence of drugs, refusing a breathalyzer test and reckless driving.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office has since offered a plea deal in the case, but Jones refuses to plead guilty for a crime he did not do.
“They basically offered that he plead guilty,” Carlton told BOSSIP. “He’s not pleading to that. If the DA wants to get creative, then that’s (another thing).” Carlton said Jones’ case was unusual because the arresting officer decided that Jones wasn’t under the influence, but the case was reassigned and the new officer said he was.
The case will head to Bronx Criminal Court next month for a trial.
