After the earthquake that left Nepal and its people in devastation, with homes being demolished and precious lives being taken, a miracle came about. With the help of a truck driver Shyan, 5-month-old Sonies Aawal has been able to survive, despite being left alone for nearly 24 hours following the tragedy.
The 5 month-old was found around 10 a.m. local time Sunday, although his family had all but given up hope when he was not found the day before CNN reported. The baby survived for 22 hours under debris of his flattened home. Despite being trapped, the baby remains uninjured.
The parents of Sonies had spoken out about their relief, they were almost sure the baby was not going to survive. Rasmila Aawal, Sonies mother told the Daily Mirror:
“I am just so happy. I cannot believe it. I had gone shopping and left my 10 year old daughter Sonia with the baby. When the quake happened I burst into tears and ran home. I thought they were both dead.”
The truck driver Shyan, said:
“I am the happiest man in the world. … I prayed to every god I could and it looks like my prayers were answered.”
The family told the Daily Mirror they were now living on the floor of a neighbor’s home. Now Sonies’ is not the only one with the miracle of survival from the Nepalese earthquake. On Wednesday, in Kathmandu a man was discovered after 82 hours. He claims he had drunk his own urine to survive. A teenage boy was also rescued on Thursday after being trapped beneath a collapsed building for five days.
Natural disasters are devastating and totally out of our control, all we can do is pray and come together for the people in need. The death toll of the earthquake currently stands at more than 5,500.
