This weekend, multiple celebrities rocked a cap and gown on to celebrate their hard work and dedication to education. Kanye West, the 37 year old rapper who’s famous for being a College Dropout, has earned an honorary doctorate degree in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kanye’s acceptance speech was very touching, and even said that life would’ve been easier from the get if he got his degree first:
This honor is going to make your lives easier, for two reasons: You don’t have to defend me as much! And I’m going to make all of our lives easier. It is these Floyd Mayweather belts that are needed to prove what I have been saying my entire life – whether it was the sign of Paul McCartney grabbing me and saying, ‘It’s OK, he doesn’t bite,’ or the New York Times cover, or the Time (magazine) most-influential cover. And now a doctorate at the School of the Art institute of Chicago.
When I was giving a lecture at Oxford, I brought up this school because when I went on that mission to create in other spaces; apparel, film, performance, it would have been easier….if I could have said, I had a degree at the Art Institute of Chicago!
You can watch his entire acceptance speech below:
Zendaya Coleman who has been at almost every red carpet event this year and has her own Disney TV show has managed to balance that and all her school work! The 18 year old was home schooled but attended Oakland School for the Arts in California before that. Her reported boo Trevor Jackson was there to support along with her Dancing with the Stars partner, Val Chmerkovskiy. Stay tuned to find out if she has any college plans!
Along with Kanye and Zendaya, Cam’ron’s finance Juju also took home her diploma from Barry University in Miami with a degree in Business and a minor in Public Administration. A few days before the official graduation, Cam’s fiancé took to her Instagram to express how ecstatic she is about receiving her degree:
I’m the daughter of two Cuban immigrants who came to the U.S for a better Tomorrow…. And Today. This is SO surreal to me OMG! Yall have NO idea how long this road has been but today it hit me like….hell I don’t know what it hit me like , just know it hit me hard… Through all the hard nights, the DRAMA, and the naysayers – ya favorite Chocolate Cuban is receiving her BACHELORS in Business with a Minor in Public administration. I’m too geeked ! Look here, if you want to go back to school , you better do that ish and NEVER let a hater tell you that you can’t ! With everything I’ve been through I think I turned out pretty damn good if I say so myself! I got my degree, own my own business, licensed real estate agent , licensed insurance agent , baby I do it ALL! I’m not done yet though. I have so much more of myself to give to the world and I’m excited that all you lovies get to embark on this journey with me !! #KillaJuju#BeautyAndBrains
