On a recently-leaked track (meaning he didn’t intend for it to be released) named “I Made It,” Rich Homie Quan is accused of glorifying rape. Here are the lyrics in question:

“Don’t want your ho, just want that cookie from her/ She tried to resist so I took it from her/ How you gonna tell me no/ You must not know who I am/”

First I want to start with the actual lyrics…they’re not screaming rape to me. Are they a little rapey? Yeah, rapey adjace. But this brings an image to mind of a girl being like, “No, I can’t mess with you! I have a boyfriend!” and being swayed eventually by Quan’s charm. Thus, he took it from her.

Regardless of the message or intended message, my philosophy is if it doesn’t apply, let it fly. As far as we know, he’s not out here raping women. His dance moves and choice of clothing are questionable at best, but Quan has yet to make a headline for such a horrific crime. That being said, he’s just rapping to rap. I take zero offense to this. Eminem rapped about killing his wife and putting her in a trunk while his daughter was in the house sleeping, bruh. I think we can handle Rich Homie Quan taking someone’s cookie.

Let’s all pull our skirts down and focus on real issues in the world, instead of being fake outraged about a rap song being “shockingly” misogynistic. Thanks.
