In honor of Mike Brown, the vigil at the location of the police shooting has been removed on what would have been his 19th birthday. However, a permanent plaque will be replaced.
According to VIBE, McFadden and Mike Brown Sr. attended a press conference Wednesday (May 20) with Ferguson Mayor James Knowles, wearing sweaters bearing their son’s face. Mike Brown’s father said the memorial, while heartfelt, had become a traffic hazard to motorist and gave his blessing to the mayor and the city for its removal.
“He would have been nineteen years old,”
Brown’s father told reporters:
“Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how I can help other young men to go forward in life.”
The new plaque, which will be laid during the re-pavement of the street, is a metallic dove and and will be constructed in its place. This lovely plan to install the permanent plaque has been organized by the Brown family.
R.I.P Mike Brown.
