If you haven’t seen the first Sister Act yet, I’m sure you’ve heard about it (there was a sequel and Tony-winning Broadway musical based off it). The 1990s Disney comedy that starred Whoopie Goldberg, Maggie Smith, and Harvey Keitel and made $232 million worldwide is making a come back!
The two writers this time around go by the names of Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah and have credits that include Legally Blonde and The House Bunny to name a few. Coming in to produce the movie is Allison Shearmur, who just produced Cinderella ($532 million).
Although Whoopie Goldberg was the main character in both Sister Act movies, it is not confirmed quite yet if she is returning for a third. The plot details are still very confidential, yet we know what the main idea is. The original story is about a Reno lounge singer who is forced to enter protective custody at a San Francisco convent and pretends to be a nun after a mob boss puts a hit on her.
