Nope, this story is not a lie. On Friday, coming from Chicago to San Antonio, an Amtrak train hit a tractor-trailer that was sitting on the tracks, which was carrying 70,000 pounds of bacon. The Texas Eagle Train 22 collided with the tractor-trailer, the truck overturned and all that bacon came out near Illinois Route 53. The Chicago Tribune reports the tractor-trailer was blocking the tracks near southwest Wilmington.
According to Newsweek, most of the passengers did not even know that the crash even took place.
Others believed that the train engineer had simply been hitting the brakes. The train stalled for about 20 minutes before crew members made an announced and instructed passengers to disembark. “It was once sudden halt,” Sam Herwitz, a passenger aboard the Texas Eagle, told the Tribune.
Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz said three passengers headed to the hospital for various injuries, and ten were were being treated for minor injuries. At least no one was severely hurt, but that bacon though… Prayers up.
