On Monday Cleveland community leaders who don’t trust the criminal justice system said that they refuse to wait for prosecutors to decided whether to even file a charge against the officers involved with killing Tamir Rice. Rice was only 12 years old at the time. Instead of waiting on prosecutors, the leaders will use an Ohio law that lets them go directly to a judge to file charges against the officers.
The fact that the leaders aren’t waiting on the prosecutors shows that Blacks in this country are extremely distrustful of our justice system that is so quick to sympathize with officers rather than innocent citizens. A lawyer for Tamir’s family Walter Madison went on to say
“The writing is on the wall. If you look at every other instance, it ends up unfavorable to the families.”
Citizens and Tamir’s family and friends are upset it’s been more than six months since his death and there are still no answers at all, no one has been held accountable. They are now “taking matters into their own hands utilizing the tools of democracy as an instrument of justice.”
