Baltimore cops are claiming that there has been a rise in gun related crimes since the death of Freddie Gray. Freddie Gray was a young man who died due to a brutal arrest by the Baltimore police that left him in a coma with a fatal spine injury. Gray’s death triggered many protest and riots leaving the city in shambles. Since the riots, city officials put the city on a mandatory curfew to try to seize some of the chaos. The officers that were involved in the young man’s death were indicted and the police department has been taking cautious steps managing crime.

Baltimore officers anonymously reached out to CNN on Wednesday and had a few things to say about the atmosphere in their city.

“The criminal element feels as though that we’re not going to run the risk of chasing them if they are armed with a gun. And they’re using this opportunity to settle old beefs, or scores, with people that they have conflict with.

I think the public really, really sees that they asked for a softer, less aggressive police department, and we have given them that, and now they are realizing that their way of thinking does not work.”
