Here’s a short list of some of the most memorable things that have happened in hip hop culture on the 4th of July throughout the years:

2000: Ruff Ryder’s album Ryde or Die Volume 2 was released.

2000: West Coast rapper Mausberg was murdered at the age of 21. He was sitting in the passenger seat of a car in his hometown when he was attacked, robbed and fatally shot.

2004: Ja Rule was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. The  Queens native luckily got the possession of marijuana charge dropped but pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license.

2012: Frank Ocean penned an open letter where he admitted to being gay and recalled a romantic relationship he had with a guy back when he was 19.

2013: Jay-ZMagna Carter Holy Grail-which eventually went platinum- was released.

2014: Gucci Mane released Trap God 4.

And lastly, 2015: Lil Wayne dropped Free Weezy Album.
