The 4th of July got a bit more exciting when the United States women’s soccer team beat Japan out of the world championship with a 5-2 victory. Just two days after their big win, New York mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the women would be honored and celebrated in the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Although many teams and holidays get celebratory parades throughout the year in New York City, it’s not an easy task setting up for one. The expenses surrounding such parades can easily add up, with costs of $1.5 million needed from city alone, and an extra $450,000 needed from private sponsors.
Are you planning to attend the ticker tape parade?
