The first time mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman escaped from prison it was 2001 and in a laundry cart. He was out and about for more than 12 years before being caught again.
On Saturday night (July 11), cameras in the prison recorded the inmate going into a shower. Later on in the day, a couple guards realized during a check that he was missing. It became visible that Guzman escaped through a tunnel in cell which was complete with lighting and ventilation and nearly a mile long.
With as much money as he was worth, he can be anywhere in the world right now. Let’s not forget he was listed by Forbes as one of the most powerful people in the world. The reason he is so powerful is for founding his drug empire, the Sinaloa Cartel.
The cartel consisted of heartless guards and enforcers and controlled a multibillion-dollar global drug empire that supplied almost all of the marijuana, cocaine and heroin on the streets in the United States. Guzman was arrested first in Guatemala in 1993 and extradited to Mexico, where he was convicted and sentenced to a maximum security prison.
