Today a woman broke a barrier within the National Football League when she became an assistant coaching intern for training camp and the preseason to work with inside linebackers.
Jen Welter has been breaking such barriers for a while now, and is no stranger to Football. This past February Welter became the first female coach in a men’s professional Football league when the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League coaching special teams and linebackers brought her on. Also in February 2014, she became the first female to play another position besides kicker in a men’s professional football league when she became running back for the Revolution.
Welter also played linebacker for 14 years as a linebacker largely with the Dallas Diamonds of the Women’s Football Alliance. She was a key factor in leading them to 4 championships.
How do you feel about the NFL’s first woman coach? Will she be effective? Let us know in the comments.
