A second 21st century remake of the Blaxploitation film Shaft (1971) is currently in the process. The film was originally based on the 1970 novel Shaft by Ernest Tidyman, and followed private detective John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) on his mission to find Marcy, a Harlem girl that had been kidnapped.
The first reboot of the film was done in 2000, which was produced by John Singleton and casted Samuel L. Jackson as Shaft’s nephew.
The upcoming remake is set to be scripted by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow. Both Barris and Barnow work for the ABC sitcom department, with Barris as the Black-ish creator and Barnow as the executive producer of The Goldbergs. John Davis and Ira Napoliello are set to produce the film.
