Just two days after the one year anniversary of Mike Brown’s death, the life of another unarmed innocent black man was cut short by a police officer.
Christian Taylor, 19, was fatally shot by Arlington Officer Brad Miller, who had just graduated from the police academy in March and was still in the process of completing the 16-week field-training program. However, it is important to note that Miller was with his training officer at the time of the incident.
According to Arlington police reports, Taylor was attempting to rob a car dealership and had also crashed his car through the shop window. Upon police arrival, Taylor “refused” to surrender and began running away; once police caught up to him, Taylor continued to “resist” arrest and a “struggle” ensued.
However, the 911 dispatch call was leaked and no signs of a struggle seemed apparent throughout the call.
“Whoa, we got shots fired!” an officer is heard saying four minutes and 22 seconds into the call.
Arlington Police Department is unsurprisingly seeming to turn the other cheek, questioning the validity of the leaked 911 dispatch call.
“It’s possible that someone obtained portions of the audio from a police scanner website,” a spokesperson told The Huffington Post.
Or…it’s possible that what we heard was what actually happened. But we won’t really know until the body camera video and audio are released, which won’t be for another 7-10 days, after all statements are finalized.
A medical examiner ruled Taylor’s death a homicide, saying their were gunshot wounds to the neck, chest and abdomen.
