Good music impacts the people who listen to it and Kendrick Lamar’s hit song, “Alright,” has had a positive influence on a few lucky high school students.
Philadelphia Hip-Hop website oogeewowee.com has created the “Be Alright” scholarship, which awards the recipient from High Tech $1,500 towards college.
The content director of the site, Wilkine Brutus, told Pigeons and Planes that they “always wanted to create a hip-hop inspired scholarship—a tangible contribution to the culture.” Students enter by sending in a 2 to 3 minute video that “explains the positive aspects of hip-hop and showcasing their own individual talents” Brutus said. The videos will be voted on via Facebook, where the winner will be determined. Check out the announcement below.
This isn’t the first time Kendrick and his music made an impact on students in high school. As we reported before, a New Jersey schoolteacher used his lyrics to inspire children in the classroom and now his songs are helping send kids to college.
