Kendrick’s song “Alright” off To Pimp A Butterfly has become one of singer Prince’s favorites. During an interview Prince had with Smokey D. Fontaine for Medium, he went on to say how much he loved Kendrick’s album and:

“He just has something he has to say. It’s pure. And with Thundercat on the album? Come on. You’re not taking Alright off my playlist!”

This isn’t the first time Prince has praised Kendrick for his work though. Back in September 2014 when Prince released two new albums and did a live stream concert to celebrate, he welcomed Kendrick to the stage to join in. Kendrick ended up performing Prince’s hit “What’s My Name” from Prince’s 1998 album Crystal Ball. Rumor has it the two have had studio sessions and songs have been recorded but they have yet to be released!

Prince also went on to speak on other artists such as Kanye West and Jill Scott. He said Kanye’s “Gold Digger” was perfect in the way he used the sample, and Jill Scott’s “A Long Walk” was the truth.
