Kanye West was inspired while out and about at NYFW and made a last-minute decision to show his latest collection, Yeezy Season 2 this Wednesday (September 16) at the Skylight Modern at 537 West 27th Street. Anne Bowene and Naeem Khan were already scheduled to present during that time and they are now stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to compete for NYFW attention against the rapper. Bowen has filed a complaint with the CFDA Fashion Calendar, while Naeem Khan’s Fashion Week presentation that is scheduled for Wednesday is going on without any complaints filed yet.
Designer Anne Bowen spoke to WWD about the conflict, stating:
Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It’s like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this.
Respect from other designers has been an ongoing conflict for Kanye West. Fern Mallis said she was unimpressed by Yeezy Season 1, his music and his attitude. He has worked with A.P.C., A Bathing Ape, Louis Vuitton and countless others. Many designers are not of fan of Ye’s attitude and thinks that he feels entitled in this industry. This last minute show may be a hit with fans and friends, but it has the possibility to put a sour taste in fellow designers’ mouth because he’s taking away NYFW notoriety from less known designers.
Meanwhile, Kim and Kanye were spotted around NYC in Season 2 footwork:
