14 year old science wiz Ahmed Mohamed received VIP treatment on Monday ( Sept. 21st) as he attended the Google Science Fair in California. Even though Mohamed was not entered into the fair, he got a chance to meet and hang with the finalists as well as Google co-founder Sergey Brin. This comes less than two weeks after Ahmed was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school after teachers thought it was a bomb.  Mariette DiChristina, the Scientific American’s editor-in-chief, said in a statement at the science fair that ” Curious young scientists, inventors like [Ahmed] should be encouraged and empowered”. This comes after the huge out pour of support Ahmed has gotten form celebrities joining in support of him as well as his very own hashtag, #IStandWithAhmed.

Since the incident, Ahmed has received so many offers an scholarships, including a visit to the White House to meet President Obama, to Facebook to meet Mark Zuckerburg and to New York to visit dignitaries from the United Nations.

On Monday (Sept.21st), Ahmed’s father withdrew Ahmed, along with his three siblings, from the Irving Independent School District. Ahmed, according to his father, told him “I don’t want to go to MacAuthur”. It was then that his father knew Ahmed would never be happy at his old school. Numerous schools have offered to enroll Ahmed into their institutions but his family believes that he needs a break before any decisions, as far as schooling, are made. Once their visa’s are approved, the family plans on taking a pilgrimage to Mecca and Saudi Arabia.
