A six-page hand written letter by Malcolm X documenting his 1964 pilgrimage to Mecca was found in a storage locker in California and is now being sold for $1.25 million dollars, the New York Post reports.
According to The Post, the letter was written on stationary imprinted with Arabic writing and illustrations of historic sites. The letter reads, ” If white Americans could accept the religion of Islam..they, too, could then sincerely accept the Oneness of Men, and cease to measure others always in terms of their difference of color,'” he wrote. “And with racism now plaguing America like an incurable cancer, all thinking Americans should be more respective to Islam as an already proven solution to the race problem”.
The letter is being sold by Gary Zimet who said, “it [the letter] was discovered in a storage locker and almost thrown out. Only because the owner saw some Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez autographs was it saved”.
In the letter, Malcolm boldly predicted that the “insane obsession” with racism in the United States could lead to the same outcome as Hitler’s Nazi Germany.
A year after this letter was written, Malcolm X was assassinated, February 21, 1965, in New York City in the Audubon Ballroom.
