Looks like the producer’s of the award show finally realized ratings just aren’t the same without a seasoned comedian to keep us laughing instead of snoring.
Variety confirmed Tuesday that Chris Rock will host the 88th Academy Awards, which airs February 28th and Hollywood’s Dolby Theater.
“Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry,” said producer’s David Hill and Reginald Hudlin. “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian — he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!”
The veteran comedian takes over as MC after Neil Patrick Harris hosted last year’s telecast, which drew the show’s lowest ratings in six years — down 16% from the previous year’s show.
Rock also said he was excited about his upcoming sophomore stint as host (previously hosting in 2005). “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” Rock said. “It’s great to be back.”
