While giving a speech on the campus of Clark Atlanta University on October 30, Black Lives Matter activists interrupted Hillary Clinton’s rally. When the group of seven or so demonstrators entered the rally, they yelled, “Black lives matter,” and then began to sing Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout.”
The Democratic presidential front-runner initially tried to reason with the demonstrators by saying, “Yes they do and I’m gonna talk a lot about that in a minute,” but eventually gave up and attempted to continue on and talk over them.
After a while, Clinton supporters began chanting “Let her talk, Let her talk.” Others chanted, “Hillary! Hillary” very loudly. Eventually, Rep. John Lewis and Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed escorted the demonstrators out.
Afterwards, the demonstrators identified as #AUCShutItDown debated with R&B singer Usher about why their approach was necessary.
