If you played a part in creation of the film Straight Outta Compton, congratulations, you too might be getting sued by Jerry Heller! Heller has been threatening to file suit since day one because he feels like the film depicts him in a negative light. Now Heller is suing NBC Univeral, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, the Estate of Eazy-E and more for a whopping $110 million. $35 million of it is for compensatory damages, and $75 million in punitive damages. He’d also like to receive a portion of profits from the film.
Inaccuracies in the film, according to Heller, included:
- He withheld a $75k check from Ice Cube
- He fraudulently induced Dre & Cube to sign unfavorable contracts
- He enjoyed lobster brunches while the contracts were being signed (Sir, please)
- He was fired by Eazy-E
He also says he never gave permission to use his likeness and that the producers used a book he’d written to write particular scenes off of and sale tickets off his name – such as the one where Suge beat Eazy until he signed away his rights to Death Row.
