Tidal is taking their content beyond the music. Jay Z is expanding his music based service and adding scripted and unscripted series. They’re in the works of two new series, “Money and Violence” for season 2 and “No Small Talk.”
“Money and Violence” is a Brooklyn street life drama about a group of thieves and drug dealers. Tidal called for season 2 after it was found on YouTube. The creator and star Moise Verneau self funded the first season and uploaded it to YouTube where the show gained a strong following base. Tidal picked it up for a season 2, which will include 12 episodes exclusively on Tidal, one week prior to wider distribution. Season 2 is said to premiere in January 2016. Season 1 is also available on Tidal in addition to exclusive access to special features and commentary.
“No Small Talk” is a comedy series hosted by DJ and TV personality Cipha Sounds, will be produced exclusively on Tidal. Each episode will follow three young comedians as they take the stage at Manhattan’s Comedy Cellar. Season 1 will be 5 episodes 25-30 minutes long. Cipha Sounds says,
The next guys I think will blow up. I didn’t want it to feel polished like the standup specials you see on TV. My goal is to help new guys get known, like Def Comedy Jam set up a lot of people’s careers.
