Obama has been pretty adamant about implementing some changes to help decrease mass incarceration.
The POTUS recently delivered a new initiative called “Ban the Box” which sets a number of restrictions for federal, state, and county employers during the application process for potential hires.
According to Vox, “Ban the box” (or, as some advocates call it, “fair-chance hiring”) doesn’t refer to a single law or policy. There are however, about 19 states and more than 100 cities with some form of ban the box, but they take a lot of different shapes.
Some, for example, restrict the questioning of criminal history during the initial application process, in other places it restricts the questioning until an offer of employment has been given.
