Facebook investors are patting themselves on the back right now as expected sales figures came in Thursday morning and showed the companies stock up more than 4.5% in pre-market trading.
How is Facebook making a killing right now you ask? Well her are three facts, courtesy of TIME, that are sure to anwser any question you may have.
- More than 1 BILLON people use Facebook everyday. Facebook now has 1,007,000,ooo active users daily. A significant chunk of that comes from developing countries. Because of that, it may be harder for Facebook to monetize.
- 78% of ad revenue came from mobile Q3. Facebook is primarily an advertising supported business. It makes its money off of showing the viewer advertisements. Unlike other companies, Facebook seems to have figured out how to successfully make money from mobile. That is super important because most Internet use happens on mobile devices.
- 1 out of every 5 minutes spent on mobile in the U.S is spent on a Facebook-owned app. That information comes from Facebook’s Chief operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg. She is specifically referring to Insatgram, the photo sharing app bought by Facebook in 2012 in a $1 billion deal. Fun fact: If any random American is using their mobile device at any given time, there’s a 20% chance he or she is on Facebook or Insatgram.
