Back in 2004, Outkast were dominating music speaks with their double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. The dynamic duo performed at the NBA All-Star Game that year, but it turns out, there was an even bigger sports-related performance in the works that never panned out!
Appearing on The Dan LeBatard Show on ESPN late last week, Big Boi revealed that Outkast had received an offer to perform during the coveted halftime slot at that year’s Super Bowl. However, it was under the conditions of them cutting the songs they performed short. The songs were “Hey Ya” and “The Way You Move,” which both were singles from the double album. Andre didn’t like that idea, and the opportunity to perform in front of millions escaped them.
“Andre didn’t want to cut the songs, he wanted to do the full songs,” Big Boi explained. He said, ‘Nah, can’t do it.’”
Big Boi said he tried to convince his groupmate “a lot,” but clearly it was to no avail! Thankfully, there were no hard feelings.
If Outkast had performed at that Super Bowl we would have never witnessed the infamous situation that occurred between Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. Go figure.
