Republican Presidential hopeful Ben Carson caused quite a stir when his campaign released a rap ad, thinking that it would speak to young black voters and man, did they think wrong.
The $150,000 ad, titled “Freedom”, was supposed to run for two weeks in Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis and Little Rock. But as you can imagine, due to the disgust of the community, that two week run got cut short. The ad featured “wtf?” lyrics such as”
“Vote and support Ben Carson for our next president and be awesome!”
“Awesome”? Was that really the word you chose? That ad made the targeted young black voters “lol” and “lmao”, not run out and buy Carson 2016 campaign gear.
TMZ caught up with Carson and asked him about the ad. Carson referred to it as that “rap thing” and admitted he “probably would have taken a little different approach.” Campaign Doug Watts spoke to ABC about their intention saying, “Reaching [young Black voters] on a level they appreciated and follow and see if we can attract their consciousness about the election.”
You would think touching the Black community would be innate for a Black man but unsurprisingly, for Carson, it isn’t. Its appears as though the Carson campaign need to rewind and take it from the top…or not.
