This will be Kobe Bryant’s final season in the NBA. The legendary baller made it official by announcing it via an open letter to basketball.
Come next season we won’t see Kobe in a purple and gold uniform, or any other uniform for that matter. In the letter, posted to The Player’s Tribune, Kobe recalls “Dear Basketball, From the moment I started rolling my dad’s tube sock and shooting imaginary game-winning shots … I fell in love with you.”
He also wrote, “This season is all I have left to give. My heart can take the pounding, my mind can handle the grind, but my body knows it’s time to say goodbye. And that’s OK. I’m ready to let you go.”
Whoever would have thought we would be hearing this from the Black Mamba? The letter was a pretty emotional one, and sent social media into a frenzy.
The letter was closed with “I’ll always be that kid with the rolled up socks. Garbage can in the corner, :05 on the clock, ball in my hands. 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1. Love you always, Kobe.”
It’s sad to see the Mamba go but we all knew the time would come one day. If you have never seen Kobe play this season will be your last chance!
