Nate Parker will act as a director, writer and star in the highly anticipated film The Birth of A Nation.

It will make an appearance at next year’s Sundance film festival. Parker who got his start on the other side of Gugu-Mbatha Raw in Beyond The Lights, plays Nat Turner a literate slave and preacher who’s slave master agrees to use Turner’s literacy skills to tame unruly slaves. Seeing the wreckage that happens, Turner comes up with a plan to lead the slaves to freedom.

Alongside Parker in the film is Armie Hammer, Mark Boone Jr, Aja Naomi King, Gabrielle Union, and Jackie Earle Haley.
