Living in Kenya has not been the safest if you are a Christian. A Somalia based, Islamic terrorist organization called Al-Shabaab has been on a rampage, killing hundreds of innocent Christians in random terrorist attacks. The Al-Shabaab wants to turn Somalia into a fundamentalist Islamic state. They have been attacking Kenya since Kenya went into Somalia to battle the Al-Shabaab in 2011. The most recent attack from the Al-Shabaab into Kenya, was in April on the campus of Garrissa University College. Four Al-Shabaab gunmen bursted into a Christian prayer service on the campus, taking hostages and eventually killing 147 innocent students.

But some Kenyan Muslims have had enough of the bloodshed. On Monday, a bus headed to Mandera, which is a city on the border of Ethiopia and Somalia, was ambushed by the Al-Shabaab. They attempted to separate the Christians from the Muslims, to kill the former, when the Muslims took a stand. To help hide the Christians on the bus, Muslim women gave Christian women their hijabs and others hid behind bags on the bus. A passenger was quoted saying, “If you want to kill us, then kill us. There are no Christians here”. The gunmen eventually left but not without killing two people.

The Kenyan government are still in pursuit of the gunmen. Nkaissery, the Kenyan interior cabinet secretary was quoted saying,

“We are all Kenyans, we are not separated by religion. We are one people as a nation. And this is a very good message from my brothers and sisters from the Muslim community.”

Will this act bring Muslims and Christians in Kenya together? Comment below.
