Jason Van Dyke, the former Chicago officer who fatally shot Laquan McDonald, has plead not guilty to his six counts of first degree murder charges.
Van Dyke shot McDonald 16 times in October 2014 due to the fact that he had a knife in his hand. Dashboard camera footage was released a couple months ago showing the disheartening scene and how it did not need to go there. In the footage, McDonald was no where near the officers when he was shot, he was actually walking away from them. Van Dyke didn’t just shot him once, but an excessive amount of 16 times even after McDonald had already fallen to the ground, clearly no longer a “threat”. No other cop on the scene fired their weapons but for some reason Van Dyke felt it was necessary to fire his 16 times.
Van Dyke posted his $1.5 million bond last month.
