The Oscar nominees are in and box office smash Straight Outta’ Compton has been nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
Straight Outta Compton, directed by F. Gary Gray, was the talk of the year having received a Critics Choice Award, NAACP Image Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.
The Oscars also showed a little love to What Happened, Miss Simone?, which tells the story of the life of singer and activist Nina Simone. It is up for Best Documentary Feature.
Creed— directed by Ryan Coogler– only received one nomination and that is for Sylvester Stallone for Best Supporting Actor. Creed and Straight Outta Compton each only received one nomination though they were expected to receive multiple.
The next, as some would call it, Oscar snub went to Star Wars: The Force Awakens as it wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. Let’s not pour anything out of our cups just yet for Star Wars because not only did the film become one of the highest grossing films in box office history, it is also nominated in five other categories including Best Visual Effects.
The Oscars air February 28th at 7pm E.S.T. Will you be tuned in to see who wins?
