Straight Outta Compton Star O’shea Jackson Jr. has announced that he will not be boycotting this years Oscar’s.

During an interview with E! News at The Critics Choice Awards, O’shea said that,

“The voters, they’re are entitled to their own opinion, just like you and I. That doesn’t mean Straight Outta Compton won’t be celebrated. We are still up for an award for original screenplay and I will be there to represent Straight Outta Compton. Just back to the drawing board. They’ll be here for years to come and let’s make sure we are too.”

When the lack of diversity became apparent once the nominations were released, the idea of boycotting the event began with the #Oscarssowhite movement. The idea really began to pick up traction even Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith announced they were not attending because of the lack of diversity.Since the #Oscarssowhite movement has been making headlines, the Academy President released this statement:

“This isn’t unprecedented for the Academy. In the ’60s and ’70s, it was about recruiting younger members to stay vital and relevant. In 2016, the mandate is inclusion in all of its facets: gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. We recognize the very real concerns of our community, and I so appreciate all of you who have reached out to me in our effort to move forward together.”

So basically she said all that to say nothing. They were aware of the ballot before it was released, you saw the lack of diversity then and did nothing. Guess they weren’t expecting this type of uproar. Being that 2015 was the year our community really woke up and took a stand after dealing with injustice after injustice after injustice, why wouldn’t you?
