Back in 2013, Jay Z released his own cologne called Gold Jay Z. Parlux Fragrances, the scent’s manufacturer, believes that he didn’t promote it properly, so they are now suing him over it.
Parlux stated in their suit that Jay Z was supposed to make promotional appearances and social media posts, but he declined. Those appearances include a Macy’s in-store, GMA and in Women’s Wear Daily. They also claimed there was supposed to be a line of follow-up fragrances that Hov helped develop, but he “dodged meetings” about them, so they never happened.
They projected that they would make $50 million in two years from the Hov colognes. Unfortunately, they ended up losing money, and stores are returning unsold inventory. They are seeking $18 million in damages.
