Back in 1993 the late Michael Jackson sat down with the Queen on daytime tv Oprah Winfrey and in the in-depth interview Jackson denied a story reporting that he wanted a white actor to play him in a Pepsi commercial. Now some 20 plus years later worst nightmare is coming true, as reported earlier in the week that British actor Joseph Fiennes will play the last King Of Pop in a new British tv show Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon.
Fiennes who is white was also taken aback when he was cast for the part.Fiennes told Entertainment Tonight that he was “shocked” by the casting, but also added that Jackson “was probably closer to my color than his original color.”
Jackson who at the time was hurt by the chatter of his skin color changes told Oprah,”That is so stupid. That’s the most ridiculous horrifying story I’ve ever heard.” “It’s crazy. Why? Number one, it’s my face as a child in the commercial(referring to the Pepsi ad.) Why would I want a white child to play me? I’m a Black American. I’m proud to be a Black American. I’m proud of my race. I’m proud of who I am. I have a lot of pride in who I am and dignity.”
