Despite the boycotts and #OscarsSoWhite, a few hand selected entertainers of color will not let that get in their way of presenting at the Oscars on February 28. Kevin Hart, Whoopi Goldberg and Pharrell are among the few non-White entertainers who have been invited and will participate in the awards show.
Oscars producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin expressed their reasoning behind picking this group of presenters and performers:
“Each of these artists brings a wonderfully distinctive element to the Oscars stage,” said Hill and Hudlin. “Together they represent the many thrilling ways stories can be shared about the human experience, and we’re honored they will be part of the celebration.”
Hart and Goldberg have been invited to present, while Pharrell, along with The Weeknd will perform. For a list of the first group of presenter and performers to be announced, see the list here.
Earlier this month, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Spike Lee announced they would not be attending the Oscars because of the controversial actions of Hollywood to not recognize the work of people of color in the industry.
Chris Rock will host the 2016 Academy Awards which will air Sunday, February 28 at 7 p.m. on ABC.
