In a sudden (but not surprising) move, civil rights activist DeRay McKesson has officially put in a bid to run for mayor of Baltimore, Maryland.
The Baltimore native says that it’s a move he felt compelled to make based on the disappointing racial and political landscape of the city.
“Baltimore is a city of promise and possibility,” McKesson said an in interview with The Baltimore Sun. “We can’t rely on traditional pathways to politics and the traditional politicians who walk those paths if we want transformational change.”
The 30 year old, who first came to prominence as a powerful voice on social media during the riots in Ferguson and Baltimore, is the 13th and final candidate to enter the primary race.
Planning to release his platform within the next week, the Deray is sure to bring a whole new set of rules to politics!

We see you, DeRay.
