The Grammys are one week away on Feb. 15 and all eyes are on TDE’s Kendrick Lamar. With a record-breaking 11 nominations, K-Dot wants everyone to know that he’s coming to win.
In a new cover story for Billboard, he talks about his hunger to win, “I want to win them all.”
“It’s bigger than me. When we think about the Grammys, only Lauryn Hill and OutKast have won Album of the Year. This would be big for hip-hop culture at large.”
Below, you can check out a few snippets from the interview, including his thoughts on Drake and Kanye, the new generation and what we can expect from the next album.
On his next project:
“As far as content, what I want to get across, I have an idea. But even that’s still premature. Once I get back in that studio, things evolve into other things.”
On Chance the Rapper, Joey Bada$$ and Isaiah Rashad being next:
“When everybody looks at our generation of kids, they always call us the misfits—you know, like we just don’t give a damn. But these individuals, they show that we do have some sense. Our generation just needs the proper people to tell us about our problems, about our wrongs and our rights.”
On Drake and Ye:
“[Internet fluency’s] not my talent. Those guys, they’re gifted in that department. Hopefully, I’ll get them talents. But for now I’ma stay in my lane.”
You can read the entire interview on Billboard’s site. The Grammys will air on CBS on Feb 15 at 8pm.
