Despite the rhymes about the glamour and the money that he has, Kanye West recently revealed to his fans on Twitter that he’s $53 million in debt.
Seeming to use Twitter as a space to vent and be transparent, ‘Ye went on to explain that the life he lives and the music he creates doesn’t come at a small price, and that he’s poured most of funds into DONDA, his creative audio and design agency.
With that followed his now infamous plea to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg, asking him to invest into his brand and his ideas.
Though the real state of ‘Ye’s finances is still word-of-West, some fans have decided to help Kanye out by creating a Go Fund Me page, with the intent of helping West with his financial woes.
User and fan Jeremy Piatt started the page leaving this message for fans:
Recently, Kanye let us in on his personal struggle. He is 53 million dollars in debt and it doesn’t look like he’s going to get Mark Zuckerberg’s help that he desperately needs. We must open our hearts and wallets for Kanye today. Sure he is personally rich and can buy furs and houses for his family, but without our help, the true genius of Kanye West can’t be realized.
As Kanye West has told us time and time again he is the “greatest living artist and greatest artist of all time”. Great artists need to be supported financially to achieve their full potential.
To quote Mr. West, “I am Warhol. I am the number one most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh. Walt Disney. Nike. Google. Now who’s gonna be the Medici family and stand up and let me create more!”
As of recent, the page has raised over $3,600 in funds, with a goal of $53 million.
After receiving a bit of backlash for the page, with many speculating that Jeremy is hoping to profit off of Kanye’s dire situation, he posted an update letting donors know their money will in fact go to Kanye West:
I’d like to update everyone and let you know that I don’t want a penny from this. I would like everything to go to Kanye. Since he is such a high profile public figure, I would prefer to have GoFundMe transfer all funds to his people directly.
Whether or not this is true, we’re sure these efforts by this fan and the donors won’t go unnoticed by ‘Ye. Maybe Jeremy will receive a pair of Yeezy Boosts for his hard work?
