All Def Digital and FUSION have the cure for the whitewashing of the Academy Awards. FUSION aired the All Def Movie Awards, which was ADD’s response to the lack of diversity in the academy.
The show was hosted by comedian and brother of Chris Rock, Tomy Rock. Some of the guests included Tyrese Gibson, Nick Cannon, Terry Crews, Marlon Wayans, Vivica A. Fox, King Bach, Sannaa Lathan, Regina Hall, Robert Townsend, Bill Duke, Gary Owen, and Jerrod Carmichael. Will Smith—who many believe was robbed of an Oscar nomination for his work in the sports film Concussion received a lifetime achievement award.
The ADAMA’s are honored 2015’s best in film, which includes Beasts of No Nation, Chi-Raq, Concussion, Straight Outta Compton, Creed, and Dope. The awards had the usual categories, like best in directing and acting, but then they had the hilarious categories like Best Helpful White Person and Best Black Survivor in a Movie.
“The All Def Movie Awards are meant to fill a generational and cultural void–just as the MTV Movie Awards did,” Sanjay Sharma, President and CEO of ADD said. “FUSION is the perfect partner to celebrate the uncelebrated, and use comedy to encourage honest dialogue and action.”
