Jazz singer Sarah Vaughn is being honored by the United States Postal Service by revealing a forever stamp with her portrait on it at the end of the month. The unveiling ceremony will take place in Newark, New Jersey, her hometown.
The portrait on the stamp is an oil painting of Vaughn in a performance based on a 1955 photograph by Hugh Bell. The larger side of the stamp will feature of some Vaughn’s most popular songs as well as the Music Icon Logos. The artist and artist director are Bart Forbes and Ethel Kessler.
For those too young to know, Vaughn was a Grammy award winning artist who got her start at the infamous Apollo Theater when she covered her rendition of ‘Body & Soul’ in 1942. She who was often mentioned alongside the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie.
