Years ago, legendary hip hop artist D-Nice created a web series called, “True Hip-Hop Stories” where celebrated hip hop artists told stories about hip hop’s past.
After a hiatus, D-Nice posted Heavy D’s Lost Episode of “True Hip-Hop Stories” where the late MC discussed the making of his 1987 hit, “The Overweight Lover’s in the House.”  He talked about his acceptance and comfortability in being the “big guy” in the industry and developing his music full circle.

“Being a guy who was a plus size rapper, if you will, I never looked at myself as outside of the normal person. I guess that was part of the appeal. I believed everything I was saying.”

He spoke about how his biggest dream prior to the record blowing up. He said it was simply to hear Mr. Magic or Marley Marl play his music:

“Sit in the park, maybe drink a 40 with your boom box and your crew and be like ‘We did it! We made it!”

RIP Heavy D.
