This is how you know your doing your job. Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 song “Alright” continues to make moves as a protest anthem. On Friday (March 11th), a Donald Trump rally in Chicago was postponed due to safety concerns after supporters and protesters showed up to the University of Illinois campus. Once the rally’s cancellation was announced, hundreds of protesters inside the university’s pavilion started chanting the socially conscious rapper’s hit: “We gon be alight.”

The last time K.Dot’s song was used as a protest anthem was last July, when Black Lives Matter protesters chanted the lyrics while protesting the arrest of a 14 year old. “Alright” wasn’t the only song used the night of the Trump rally, protesters outside chanted “F*ck Donald Trump” to the 2004 classic by Crime Mob “Knuck If You Buck”.
According to the Chicago Tribune, thousands of people were outside of the UIC Pavilion. It is said to be the largest protest rally that the Trump campaign has faced. With supports and protesters present and our nations racial tension at an all time high, unfortunately, violence erupted. Five arrests were made, two officers and two civilians were arrested.
