EgyptAir Flight MS181 was taken over by a hacker this morning (March 29) by a passenger claiming to be wearing an explosive belt. Luckily the belt was a fake, no one was hurt and the hijacker surrendered at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus.
An unstable Egyptian hijacker named, Seif Eldin Mustafa hijacked the Egyptian airplane and diverted the flight to Cyprus. It is not made clear what exactly the hijacker’s demands were, but some reports say Mustafa wanted to talk to his estranged wife in Cyprus and others claim he was asking for the release of female prisoners in Egypt. The hijacker is currently in custody and being questioned.
Although no one was hurt, this incident does raise questions about Egypt’s aviation security and how the hijacker was able to get a fake explosive device on board the aircraft.
