Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith is getting hit with a $2.5 million dollar lawsuit stemming from his an incident that took place back in November while in New York. A fight occurred outside of 1Oak nightclub, which prompted a suit was filed Thursday by the plaintiff, Justin Brown, claiming Smith shot down his request for a photo. In the police report claims that Brown then said, “That’s why you got kicked out of New York,” and supposedly that is when Smith allegedly choked and hit him in the neck and head.
There is said to be a video of the alleged incident but it has not surfaced yet. This is not Smith only choking offense, Smith was also involved in the choking of a teen during a pickup game a few years back.
This past Sunday after a game in which the Cavaliers beat the Knicks 107-93, Smith was asked about the altercation and responded, “No, I ain’t got no comment on that. It is what it is. So, we’ll just see what happens.”
The Cavs organization is said to be behind him during this process.
