Lakers fans have noticed that Nick Young has been on the bench for the past 11 games.
During Monday’s practice, head coach Byron Scott explained that the Young’s head hasn’t been in the game, thus why he’s been riding the bench:
“It has nothing to do with the chemistry,” Scott said at practice Monday. “It has everything to do with just basketball. Right now, I know what he’s going through, and I know it’s hard on him. But he’s not here with us, mentally, and there’s no need for me to put him out there on the floor.”
What Young is going through is the aftermath of a leaked video, in which Young can be seen confiding in D’Angelo Russell (who was secretly recording the conversation) about how he cheated on fiancee Iggy Azalea.
In addition to the social media humiliation, on Sunday Coach Byron listed Young as inactive and added Metta World Peace to the roster, saying that Metta was considered to be the “more valuable player.”
These developments couldn’t come at a worse time in the season- with only six games remaining , this ordeal may have caused Young to be out for the remainder of the season. Though the word is that the Lakers are giving Russell the cold shoulder due to his betrayal, it looks as though Young is the one who is suffering the most.
