Kobe Bryant will play his final NBA game on Wednesday, April 13 in front of a sellout crowd at the Staples Center against the Utah Jazz. To commemorate his Hall of Fame career, Nike will honor Bryant with “Mamba Day.”
According to ESPN and Darren Rovell, “Mamba Day” will feature 200 athletes paying tribute to Bryant, known by his nickname “Black Mamba,” by donning black and gold Nike sneakers.
Bryant, 37, leads the Lakers in scoring at 16.8 points per game, but nothing has come of it. The team officially marked their worst season in franchise history with this week’s home loss to the Clippers. They currently sit at just 16-62, putting them last in the Western Conference.
While addressing the media following the Clippers game, Bryant said he doesn’t know how he’ll react emotionally after he finishes his final game.
“When the time comes, you never know,” Bryant said. “I might be sitting here with tears flowing out of my eyes. I doubt it, but it could happen. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
